Bored in traffic? PRAY
I brought my 1st grader to school yesterday and we were running late since her classes starts at 7:20 and it was already 7:15. It was a little traffic at McArthur Highway and the vehicles coming from San Pablo were moving slowly so I was looking on my watch almost every second. Then, as we crossed the highway going to Tikay (where my daughter’s school is, Montessori School of Malolos), I saw this van with a plate strategically placed in its windshield. The plate says, “Bored in traffic? PRAY”. I think every car should have that plate, specially in Manila (EDSA in particular) where everyday, the traffic is horrendous!
Metaphorically, traffic may denote our own lives. Those words speak not just about the traffic on the street. Traffic may mean something, someone, or any circumstance that is coming in and out of our lives that is slowing us down or distracting our daily lives, much to our dismay, tension and worries. Sometimes, despite all our daily duties, work or tasks, we still feel empty as if everything is just coming and going. There are also times we are stuck in a situation (or problem) and we don’t know how to move forward or where to go.
Traffic may mean any obstacles in our lives. But like in any street traffic, we still arrive to where we want to go. Simply put, despite all the troubles we are facing, there is always a way out. Just like my fave movie line from My Bestfriend’s Wedding says, “This, too, shall pass.” Whenever I am into a distressful situation, and tension is starting to lurk in, I just say these words and I feel everything starts to ease up. This is my mantra everytime I have to face a problem. Another one of my mantras, which I always utter during stressful events is from Psalm 21:1 -
“The Lord is my life and my salvation; whom shall I fear?…”
There are lots of crossroads and traffics into our lives, but how we deal with them is the most important part. We should always stay positive in everything that is coming our way. PRAY. Everything comes for a reason, and only God knows what our paths would be. So, it’s better to let Him be our driver and let Him maneuver our lives, for a smoother traffic!!!
I was thinking of how to end this post, so I just randomly opened my little book, The Road of Life. And guess what? The page I opened is about life’s journey. For sure, I did not open that page accidentally, Somebody from above wants to end this post appropriately and nicely. So here it goes,
My Journey
Through flickering lights and shady nooks,
My path leads up a hill;
A pleasant well-worn way I see,
A quiet, sparkling rill.
Fragrant flowers line either side,
Birds singing overhead;
Then suddenly the blackened skies
And stormy clouds, I dread.
A steep and rugged road appears,
Obstructions dim my sight;
I cannot see what lies ahead,
In the darkness of the night.
O God above please hear my prayer
And show me what to do
Because I can travel any path
If I walk my way with you.

Hi Maline! Tagal na ako’ng informed na you have created a blogsite. I was too busy with so many things that I didn’t really have enough time to check on the every detail of the blogs of our friends (and yours, too). I’m actually here now in the office preparing for another agenda for the day. But when I’ve read your comment to Nelson’s blog, I immediately click on the site. You just don’t know how someone like you has again touched my heart and my life. Thanks Maline!! Mwaaah!!

Very insightful Maline (please let me stick to the original handle).
I ignored the article noong unang daan ko rito. Now I have more time to linger and the title caught me this time.
Tama ka, there will be times when we think all would be a breeze not expecting that a “traffic” lies somewhere. We could either take it with frustration or consider it as an opportunity to pause and examine if we really are headed to the right direction.
Your stumbling upon Ellang’s classroom was no accident. It had a purpose and possibly this is it, to serve as connector to what most of us have been missing all along.
Keep writing, the gift is there. God bless.

thanks kabao for visiting back. Yes, God doesn’t always smooth our path, but He makes sure that He’s beside us in every journey. Comments like this inspire me more to believe that even in my own little way, I can touch the lives of others.
I am also glad I joined the classroom and found nice kababayans from all over the world who, despite the distance, age differences and status, were able to establish such camaraderie.
Thanks again, and God bless you, too!
