Christmas is Just Around the Corner!
It is now September, start of the -BER months, and of course, start of countdown for Christmas!!! Radio stations are now playing some christmas carols, and one of the most awaited song i think, is Gary V’s “Pasko na Sinta ko” - timeless.
I remembered our first Christmas in Australia. I arrived downunder in June ahead of the kids and Albert, and they followed Dec. 13th, just barely 2 weeks before Christmas! I think that season is one of the best for me. One reason, we had our real pine tree!!! Our tatay in Melbourne, Kuya Cesar, was very fond of the kids and he just brought the tree to our house. Of course, it was our first time to have a real Christmas tree…ohh, the scent was heavenly. So our pinoy friend, mother hen James and housemates maan and nikki excitedly decorated it. The only problem was how to keep the tree from standing because it was too heavy. So we used the big plastic pot that we used for kitchen bin (washed it, of course!) and put big stones to keep the tree from falling. This was our first time to deal with decorating a real pine tree, so we didn’t know that we had to put some water on the base so that the leaves won’t wither. Ooops, we didn’t do the watering but luckily the tree still looked fresh came Christmas time.
Since Christmas 2003 is our first outside the country, I told Albert to bring along christmas lights. I would even like a parol, but my gosh, he flew together with our two kids, so parol is out of the question. Anyhow, we decorated the front porch with all the lights, and it was so nice!! Of course, if you’re in the Philippines you won’t marvel much with the lightings because almost every home has Christmas decorations! We are the only one in the neighborhood with decorations, so everyone passing by our house was in awe. (But i wasn’t in awe when we received our electric bill, after three months.hehe, because the bill in oz is sent quarterly) Anyways, together with our other pinoy friends we celebrated the Christmas pinoy style - noche buena, monito-monita, lots of foods, and drinking till the wee hours.
Wow, how time flies. It’s now Christmas 2007. I can’t wait to eat bibingka and puto bumbong (hehe, you couldn’t find that in oz, so I am thankful I am in Pinas now). You can still have that any day, any time of the year from Sotero’s. I also tried last year bibingka and pinoy tsokolate from Tsoko.nut Batirol, a pinoy tsokolate and coffee shop located in SM Makati. I think the bibingka was good, and of course the tsokolate, eh! A bit pricey though, if I remembered correctly, the bibingka-tsokolate combo was Php125.
Oooopps..before I get hungry and rush to a Sotero outlet in bayan, I wish everybody a good day!
God bless! Smile everyone!
