I could say the song “You can’t always get what you want” by the Rolling Stones is the unofficial House,MD theme song. This background song caught my attention after finishing the 22nd episode. Apparently this classic was played in three episodes, including the pilot episode aptly titled, what else, the Pilot. So what’s so big about this song aside from the fact the it was 100th greatest song of all time by the Rolling Stones?

I found out that in the House Original Soundtrack, the song was performed by the Band from TV, and guess who is one of its members? Of course, our dear Dr. House, Hugh Laurie (wow, who’s playing the keyboards that’s why he’s good in playing the piano in some episodes), James Denton (more wow, he plays the guitar and of course we know him as the handsome plumber Mike from Desperate Housewives), Greg Grunberg (the founder of the band and plays the drums; he’s from the tv series Heroes), Bob Guiney (E! host, vocals), and Bonnie Somerville (vocals, played Mona in the hit series Friends). The Band from TV was created to provide fundings for charities around the world (who said Dr. House can’t be humane?). Aside from being used in House, the song was also used in a Coca Cola commercial and in other tv series such as Nip/Tuck, the Big Chill, and Californication.

Anyways, going back to the song, particularly the lines “…But if you try sometimes you just might find, You just might find, You get what you need….” Simple words but true. We can never, ever get all the things we wanted - whether it’s the job we desperately want, the kind of life we hope for, the riches we dream of, or the partner or relationship we wished to find. Even if we do everything and pray to all heavens everyday, we just can’t have them. But if you think and reflect more, we realize that what we get most of the times are what we needed, not what we wanted.

We should always accept that God only gives us what is good for us. He knows what is right for us. So, then why pray for what we want, when God already knows what we need? I think praying to God prepares us to accept what God wishes to give us - our real needs. God knows best. So we should not fret when we don’t get what we wanted because God knows the big picture and what lies ahead of us. He definitely has a better plan - always. We should always keep in mind that God is going to provide for all our needs, maybe not all our wants, but definitely everything that we need.

So whenever I feel things are not going my way, I just pray and hope for the best because I know God never fails. Of course, sometimes I can’t help getting worried or be anxious, but when I feel anxiety I just PRAY, PRAY, and PRAY. Then, it would be easier for me to accept whatever God designs for me and every burden seems lifted. In troubled times, I particularly read these passages from the Bible, which I want to share with you. I hope this will help everyone realize that God is, and always be in control!

Matthew 6:25-27,34

” Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life,

What you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on.

Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?

Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns,

An yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value that they?

And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life…?

Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself.

Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”
