My Hannah champorado
Hello guys! It’s a rainy, stormy Saturday again same as last week. There’s a storm here now in Pinas called Hannah, not so strong but still bringing some rains. When I woke up this morning, I wanted to go back to bed to sleep some more. It’s a bit cold and it’s gloomy because of the rain so it’s really a tease to oversleep today, plus it’s a Saturday so the kids has no school. Oh well, that’s just a wishful thinking coz the kids are already playing their legos and i need to give them breakfast. Then champorado crossed my mind - hot, chocolatey - a true comfort food in this rainy and cold morning.
I have stored some Antonio Pueo (AP) chocolate tablets in my fridge for about 3 weeks now and I have been waiting for the right time to cook champorado using these tablets. The wrapper of Antonio Pueo chocs has a recipe for champorado so I just based mine there. I just tweaked it a bit. Their recipe calls for the whole 8 blocks to be used, but for economic reasons I just used 6 tablets that remained from the last time I cooked. Actually, there’s a little story why I used only 6 tablets instead of 8 as listed in the wrapper recipe.
About a month ago, I bought my first pack of AP chocolate tablets from the grocery store. I left it on the kitchen, unfortunately the house cat tried to eat it! Who would think that cats love chocolates? Good thing, I was able to save 4 untouched tablets. Actually the cat only bit two tablets, but I threw out the other 2 more tabs just to make sure. I kept the remaining 4 tablets in the fridge then the next time I went to the groceries, I bought another pack of AP choc tablets. So when I cooked champorado some few weeks ago, I just added two more tablets to the 4 tabs spared by the cat, and stored the remaining 6 tablets in the fridge waiting for the right time to cook it. So, this is it! Rainy and cold, what’s more comforting to eat than a champorado?
So here is my “Hannah”champorado that is so chocolatey my kids finished off their servings, with my eldest daughter Kaye even shared some of mine.
HANNAH CHAMPORADO
1. Wash 1 cup of pure glutinous “malagkit” rice twice, drain the water.
2. Boil the rice in 10 cups of water under medium heat until soft.
3. Lower the fire, add a little salt and 6 pieces of Antonio Pueo chocolate tablets.
4. For some more chocolate goodness, you can add up some spoons of Milo or any chocolate drink.
5. Stir the porridge for about 15 minutes until the rice is tender and the porridge is thick enough.
6. I didn’t put any sugar, so I just served it with sweetened condensed milk! More yummy and creamy!
ENJOY!!!
