Ahh, awitin mo at isasayaw ko
My second child Miguel just got home from his kinder class. I just noticed, the minute he stepped in and changed his clothes to play the legos, he was so happy and kept on singing this line over and over from the VST & Co., Ahhhh, awitin mo at isasayaw ko. I would have been more amused if he danced with it, but nonetheless, he kept on singing that line repeatedly for almost 20 minutes or so. Even when he went to the loo (toilet) to you-know-what and was sitting on the throne, he kept on singing over and over! I wonder where he heard that song. I asked him why he’s so happy, he just gave me a big grin.
You see, for the last few weeks I noticed that he’s coming home quite happy. Maybe because he is now catching up with his writing. They are now writing their short lectures onto their notebook and at the beginning I noticed that he struggled with it and most of his notes were written by the teacher! So what I did, I let him re-write the notes at home - everyday. I remembered about 3 weeks ago, the minute he dropped his things from school, he innocently told me that teacher got mad at him. I asked him why but he didn’t reply. He seemed not upset after all. When I checked his notebook, the teacher put a note there saying, “Please practice writing.” I also noticed that the lesson for the day was all written by teacher - with red ink! So when we had our “tutoring hour” in the afternoon, I made him re-write the notes and told him that he should write in school. Then he dropped the bomb, “Mommy pinagalitan ako ni teacher kasi di ako nagsulat.” (Mommy, teacher got mad because I didn’t write) Again, he was still calm as if nothing happened. I asked him why he didn’t write and he again did not answer. I asked him if he cried, he said yes then continued his story that “Baby Boy”, his youngest classmate, didn’t write as well. It turned out, they are seatmates that day!
The next day, Miguel went home crying and so upset! I asked him why and he said, between sobs, because his fingers were full of glitters! That’s explainable because Wednesday is their arts class and that week, they needed to bring styropor, glue and gold glitters. Oh well, I guess having fingers full of glitters is far worse than an angry teacher.
Now, around two weeks later and almost everyday of re-writing the day’s lectures, Miguel’s getting at ease with his writing. Of course, not with perfectly written letters, but I am quite happy with his progress. Yup, and not to mention after some bribes of a new box of crayons, pensils, erasers, pad papers, and a new pair of school shoes.
I am still wondering why he is so happy today. The singing has stopped but he is still in the happy mood. How I wish adults have the same pure happiness of a child that by merely singing a lively song would take away all their worries.
Well for now, I think I have to follow my son to liven me up and forget some problems even for some few minutes……Ahhhh, awitin mo at isasayaw ko, ohhh…
