St. Jude and Daryl - my two bestfriends
Today is October 28, the feast day of my favorite saint, St. Jude Thaddeus. Today is also the birthday of one of my best buddies since college, DARYL! So, which one should I write about first?hmm..ok.
I consider St. Jude Thaddeus one of my favorite patrons, aside from St. Joseph and our Mother of Perpetual Help. Back in college, I was staying in a boarding house in Intramuros, and one of my boardmates, Nerise, asked me and other classmates to go with her to St. Jude parish near Malacanang to do the novena. I was a bit problematic that time with my university standing, because I really needed to have a 2.50 average (a hurdle for all PLM students and shouldn’t have any failing grade) so that I wouldn’t be kicked out that semester. So, from then on, I would religiously go with Nerise to St. Jude every afternoon despite the heat and the crowd. Of course, I also did my best to study harder that sem, so no more mountain climbing for me then. Lo, and behold, at the end of that grueling semester (fourth year 2nd sem, i think), know what was my GWA? EXACTLY 2.50! Truly, God gives us what we really need!
Maybe, it’s not coincidental that the feast day of St. Jude is the same as Daryl’s birthday. Tinaya ko pa nga sa jueteng last week, 10-28 hahaha! Kaso di nanalo.hehe. Opo, meron pa pong jueteng dito sa bulacan, so mga authorities, di totoo chismis that we are Jueteng free…oooopps. Pero noon lang ako tumaya ha (ulit, hehe). The bet collector kasi passed by the house and I just instantly thought of Oct. 28, so I got 5pesos from my wallet and bet on the two numbers. Oh well,
Daryl is one of the best buddies I had since college, and up to now. We first met that Sunday before the start of classes in June 1992. We were both freshmen, she’s enrolled then in Mapua and me in PLM. We are both promdis like the other housemates in that boarding house at 72 Victoria St., Intramuros, Manila. There are lots of good (not so good and ghostly, hehe) memories in that place, but even if all of us in that boarding house parted ways after (and even before) finishing college, some of us still managed to maintain the friendship, the bond - as thick as blood. And I could say, Daryl is one of the best, bestest (if there’s such an adjective) bestfriend. We may have some misunderstandings before, but one thing I realized about her is that she would always be there whenever any one of us need help. I may have not yet told her this, and I hope she would finally read my blog but I just wanna say, THANK YOU, for everything and for always being there specially during the hardest part of my life. I know I cannot repay all the things you have done for me, but always remember, I am always here. Happy birthday!!!
St. Jude is the patron saint of desperate cases, but tried and tested, Daryl would always be there in those hopeless times! For my two “bestfriends”, thank you is not enough. Let me end this post with this nice poem:
For My Best Friend
This is for you, my best friend,
the one person i can tell my soul too
Who can relate to me like no other
Who I can laugh with to no extents,
Who I can cry to when times are tough,
Who can help me with the problems of my life.
Never have you turned your back on me
Or told me I wasnt good enough
Or let me down
I don’t think you know what that means to me
You have went through so much pain and you still have time
For me.
And I love you for listening even when inside YOU are dying
And I look up too you because you are strong,
and caring and beautiful.
Even though you don’t think you are.
And I hope you know that I am always here
To listen to you laugh and cry and help
In all the ways that i can
And I will try to be at least half the friend you are
To me.
I hope you know I would not be the person I am today, with out you.
My best friend.
