PROUD Mommy
I just got my daughter Kaye’s report card yesterday, and quite happy with her grades. In most of her subjects, the grades increased to 90. Even in Math, which I thought is her waterloo, her grade jumped from 87 to 90. She only had two grades below 90, in Sibika & Geography where she got 89 but at least better now compared to last quarter’s 86, her lowest grade last time. Though I needed to brush up more on her Science since it got lower from 88 to 87. Overall, I am quite satisfied and so proud of her. The teacher told me she already adjusted in school. She’s a transferee and lessons in her school is quite advanced compared to her former school. Good thing she’s already settled.
When we we’re still in Australia, she went to childcare together with her brother Miguel. Though they were in separate rooms, on her second year there she moved up to the kinder room. But kinder in Oz is different from what we have here in the Philippines. I think the curriculum here in the Philippines is much more advanced and difficult - tough. In her kinder room, they we’re just given educational toys and plays, but no formal teaching. I just had to teach her writing and reading and bought her lots of kinder books - kinda homeschool. When we got back here in the Philippines last year, I had her tutored for a month before I enrolled her to Preparatory level. She’s turning 6 that school year and would be too old for a kinder, initially I thought of enrolling her in Grade 1 but realized that would be much difficult for her since she hasn’t gone to real school. So she just took the exam for Prep and luckily, she passed the test for Prep though she needed to improve her writing skills.
While in Prep, she wrote her lessons soooo slowly and sometimes incomprehensible that for almost two quarters, most of her lessons were finished by the teachers! She also didn’t know how to organize her notes, for example, she’d skip 20 empty pages before she wrote the next lesson. So for almost 2 grading periods, I would always insist her to rewrite all her notes. She really made difficult adjustments on her first two quarters, but she worked really hard to improve. In the last grading, she was included in the Top 5!
After Prep, I transferred her to Montessori School of Malolos, and though the fees are almost doubled, I was quite impressed with the quality of teachings and facilities. All worth it. Though the lessons are so much advanced! When she took the entrance exams, I told the principal beforehand that she didn’t have multiplication in Prep. She told me, their school already teach multiplication in Prep, not just in 1 digit but up to 3 digits! Usually, they require the transferee to enrol in their summer class to brush up in Math, Reading and Language. But she passed the exam (except for multiplication) so the principal told me that I just teach her multiplication, and no need to enrol in summer class.
During her first quarter, we usually study til 9pm (we start after dinner) because in the afternoon I let her rest first. Sometimes I tutor her til 10pm especially during exams. Math, Sibika and Science are difficult for her, and for me, too!!! I needed to memorize again the Roman Numerals up to M (1000), and I almost cried when I saw her lecture in science is about different eras - paleozoic, mesozoic, etc., etc. Who cares when the dinosaurs came to earth? How about learning all the landforms and waterforms again and memorizing all the continents and giving countries for each (complete with their capital cites)? Hayyy, but the most exhilarating for me is reading the world map and finding a country using degrees in latitude and longitude. I got so mixed up how to do it I searched up the net! So, what country do you think is 14° N and 121º E? Philippines! Grabe ang subjects ngayon ng mga bata! They already started basic biology in science. I am thankful, di ako ngayon nag-aral, hehehe.
Anyways, as I have said earlier, I am so happy with Kaye and her progress in school. She loves reading my blogs, and for sure I will let her read this: DADDY & MOMMY ARE PROUD OF YOU KAYE - WE LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!!

our kids are indeed our prized gift from God. We are more than happy even with the small things that they have achieved. You’re a lucky mom, kay might have inherited this from you.

Hi! First, let me just say I tried leaving this comment on your recent post but I don’t think it registered.
I have always believed that if we jotted down 5 things we’re grateful for each day, even something as mundane as finding a parking space when we really need it, we’re be more content and happier.
Also, congratulations to your daughter for being such a smart girl!
