Lord, teach us to be grateful

I attended the mass this morning, not a TV mass, but yeah, in the church. I was just supposed to do my novena to Our Mother of Perpetual Help before I go to the market, but when I got inside the church, the mass was just about to start. Since I haven’t really attended a “real” mass for quite sometime now, aside from the Sunday TV mass, I decided to do the novena later and stayed. Plus, I know the officiating priest, he was a schoolmate in highschool, just a batch ahead from me. I think he was even one of my crushes in highschool before, hehe.
Anyways, the gospel is from Luke 17:11-19, which tells of the ten lepers Jesus healed but only one of them got back to Jesus to thank him. I remembered one of Father Mario Sobrejuanite’s sermon few Sundays back, where he repeatedly said that in order for us to receive more blessings, we should always learn to say ‘thank you’.
Most of the times we are drowned easily by power, fame, money, success, and other achievements we forget that everything comes from God. Then, when a problem hits us or only when we need something that we call upon Him again. When everything seems perfect, that’s when we tend to forget thanking Him with every good things that are coming our way.
On the contrary, we are sometimes too consumed with all our worries and problems that we forget there are lots of blessings to be thankful for. Merely the gift of waking up every morning is a gift that we should always welcome with a smile, right? Wouldn’t it be nice to start your day with a big smile in your face? Well, not that you’re insane but, like for me I try to do that as soon as I wake up and utter thanks to Him for giving me a new day. I immediately feel wonderful and ready to face the world. What would you choose to start your day with - grumpy or smiling? I’d rather choose the latter.
We usually consider as blessings all those material things we have or favors granted, but how about those failures and problems we encounter? Shouldn’t we call them as blessings, too? Problems, tragedies, and unfulfilled plans could be blessings in disguise, right? We may not know the reasons why we experience them, but time would come when we would realize there are reasons behind all those, which only Him knows. He is the biggest planner! In the first place he is an all-knowing God, right? So I think He blesses us with sufferings and pains for our benefit - for us to grow in spirit, in faith. It is said in Ephesians 3:13, “Therefore I ask that you may not lose heart at my tribulations for you, which are your glory.”
Ooops, I just remembered that in the US, Thanksgiving will be celebrated on the 22nd of November. Wow, what a timely post. Even though we don’t celebrate it here in the Philippines, I think we should still be grateful for all the blessings that come our way - not just on that day, but everyday! I wish to end this post with the best thing Father Mario said in the sermon:
‘IF WE ONLY COUNT THE BLESSINGS AND ONLY IF WE COUNT THEM SLOW THAT WE WILL APPRECIATE THEM MORE.’

Hi, it’s so nice to know that there are still good souls like us who have been so grateful for what we are and what we have right now (good or bad). Being grateful shows how we appreciate things that God has given us. I just hope that everybody would realize that it’s so nice to be grateful whether it is success or failures God will know where to put us in the right place in His time!
I’ve learned so much from you! though my first blog entitled Be Grateful too! Hope I can meet you in person and hopefully we could be the best of friends.

Hi! I have always believed that if we jotted down 5 things we’re grateful for each day, even something as mundane as finding a parking space when we really need it, we’re be more content and happier.
