Words for Alcoholics from the Bible

chardonnay

I had a drink yesterday because it was my brother Allan’s 27th bday. Together with my future stepmom and sister Len, we finished off a bottle of chilled chardonnay, a Jacob’s Creek Chardonnay Pinoit Noir that I brought home from Australia 2 years ago. I remember my last drink before yesterday was about a year ago when my BFF Chix went home here last year from Oz before going to the US. She treated me and other high school buddies for a nice drink in a bar somewhere in Ortigas - the last one I had for years!

Now I just wonder how wines are named? Why only after males? This one we had is Jacob’s Creek, and I also tasted before another Australian wine, Lindemans. Now I wonder, if the owners of Lindemans wine is related to the U.S. millionaire George Lindemann hehe.  Just a wild thought, a slight hang over maybe? LOLS.

I am not an alcoholic, as you can see, but I know there are lots of people out there who are suffering from alcoholism - and depend their existence on a bottle of spirit. I know it won’t be easy, but if you’re suffering from alcohol dependence, please seek help before you totally destroy your life and your family. Don’t hold on to that bottle, hold on to God. I hope the following Bible verses help, which I (not-)accidentally found, hence my post about alcohol today:

Proverbs 23:29-35

Who has woe? Who has sorrow?
Who has strife? Who has complaints?
Who has needless bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes?
Those who linger over wine,
who go to sample bowls of mixed wine.

The Friendship Book and the Mystery of Francis Gay

1972 The Friendship Book I am a now reading this old book titled, The Friendship Book, by Francis Gay. I said old because what I’ve got is a 1972 version of the annual book, which I only bought for Php8.00 in August 2, 1997. Yes, I know the date when I bought it from Booksale at Makati Cinema Square because that’s what I do to all the books I bought - I write on the title page the date and place when I bought the book then sign up. It’s my ritual so before I flip the pages, I’d be brought to some nostalgia when I bought them.

Anyways, the author of the book is Francis Gay, but it’s still a mystery up to now who is the real Mr. Gay. I searched over google who is the man, but I got no useful answer. One search result came up - Francis Gay is a captured murderer in the US, hehe. Of course, he is not the author of The Friendship Book, coz that man in jail is only in his late 40s. Whereas, the oldest Friendship Book I found over the net is dated 1948, plus Mr. Gay is British, not American. For sure the author is just using a pseudonym, but whoever Francis Gay is, his tradition of writing a thought for each day in every year has consistently become a best seller. As a matter of fact, part of the British gift-giving tradition during the festive Christmas season is giving a copy of The Friendship Book to a treasured friend. (more…)

Potty training for just 3 days? Yes, it’s possible!

I am so thankful that all my kids now are old enough to ditch the diapers, so my alloted money for nappies now go to more important family needs. Imagine before, I used to buy two big boxes of nappies (each of different sizes) for my two boys, and that would only be enough for barely a week! Had my 2 boys were potty trained early, those money I used to buy diapers would have gone to better use.  Tsk, tsk. (more…)
