It maybe purely coincidence that I found this quote from Sir Edmund Hillary, the first climber known to have reached the summit of Mt. Everest. He just passed away this 11th of January but for sure his legacy will continue to live.
I was a mountain climber myself. Was, because I only did that when I was in college. Now, about 13 years later and after doubling the pounds I carry (read:siksier,hehe), how I wish I could also do mountain climbing again, or even trekking! Though when I was still in Oz, I had a short trek around the bush in 2003 at Wilsons Promontory National Park together with fellow AusAID scholars.
That’s the closest I got to mountain climbing - coz my last climb was in October 1997 when I joined my group, Ecological Mountaineers and Outdoors Club (EMOC) and other mountaineering groups for a 5-day climb up to the ranges of Sierra Madre! Wow, it was sure tiring, but the most important thing that I learned from mountaineering is believing in myself.
Mountain climbing is not for the faint-hearted. You need to be physically prepared for it, so before each climb, our group would do a regular jog along Roxas Boulevard, or just climb up the stairs of PLM’s building - yeah, all the 5 floors up and down, 10 times! Ooops, did I mention we need to carry a backpack full of rocks? But I guess, the physical hurdles are easier compared to the emotional battle when you’re already climbing the mountains. Specially for a seasoned climber like me, every step up, every river to traverse and every stone wall to climb or rappel, were huge challenges! I needed to psyche my self every climb that I can do it and reach the top!!! For those non-climbers, you could say that’s torture, right? Had I mention some bruises and the sun-burnt face?hehe.
But mountain climbing was all worth it, specially when you reach the summit and you see the spectacular view (now I am starting to wonder where are my pics then?). It’s like all your bruises and hardships are paid off. And aside from gaining friends (though I apologize for not getting in touch with them lately), I learned how to believe myself. I learned that I can conquer any mountain only if I tried and really had the courage and effort to climb them.
Life is like mountain climbing, you don’t just need physical strength but the most important thing is the guts to conquer - the belief you can do it! It doesnt’ have to be a real mountain, coz our lives are already full of “mountains” anyway - lots of hills and unfamiliar paths we need to go through. All we have to do is, ALWAYS BELIEVE IN OUR SELVES!

Don’t worry sis, pareho tayo.hehe, after being away from the corporate world for a year and a half,I am also wary of applying for jobs, esp. my last few applications were all unsuccessful. Yeah I trust myself and my capacities (even if those companies don’t
). aba, don’t fret sis, at least you’re doing great with your blog!!!
So for now, I am doing the same thing, hoping to have a better post everyday.
Don’t wanna mention about the diet.hehe, I don’t even measure my waistline anymore.hahaha. basta tayo, beautiful and happy, whatever our sizes are diba?
Oh you replaced the images on top! that’s good… although meron pang isa na naiwan… ay nga pala Ate if you want the images to look like the ones I have use the html version tapos copy mo lang yung part… ^__^ and wow you’re a mountaineer! that’s exciting… I also have troubles believing in myself… One of my collegues once told me that I am very harsh on myself… I am also in a way very insecure with the way I look but I don’t blame it on the world because I seldom take care of myself which is also bad… hehe… anyway, take care

I guess all of us have insecurities diba? Depende lang daw un sa pagdadala. Diba? And one thing I learned from a highschool teacher, walang taong pangit, lahat maganda. which is true, isn’t it? That stuck into my mind, obviously.
Kaya ako, hehe, despite all the physical insecurities (and deformities?), beautiful and happy pa din! Charing. hehe

I love the post and all the comments. Right now I am waiting to hear back from all the law schools that I have applied to and though I have a chance, it is a long shot that I will get into a top 10 school. I just have to keep reminding myself that it isn’t so much were I end up going but what I do with the opportunities that will be given to me in the future
