Must-have softwares for NPOs
Posted by malineskyI admire many nonprofit organizations or NPOs because of the good cause and worthy missions they do. There are lots of NPOs worldwide and I particularly see many nonprofit organizations on the environment. Here in the Philippines, I particularly admire Habitat for Humanity for building quality but affordable homes for the poor. I also once had a classmate during my masters course who was working for a nonprofit organizations that provide micro-lending for the poor.
Now that I am slowly going back to the workforce after 1 1/2 years of hiatus, I am thinking of applying for a job to NPOs - environmental NPOs in particular. I am now doing some research about nonprofit organizations already, and trying to understand how NPOs work. I just learned that NPOs are very similar to business entities, its just that NPOs obviously do not operate to generate profit.
However, in order for NPOs to accomplish their missions, they need funds in order to operate. I even found some fund accounting software available online purposely for NPOs. Talking about big NPOs, the largest one listed in the US is the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation which has an endowment of about approximately US$60 billion! Wow, surely this foundation uses nonprofit fund accounting software to manage those million dollars!
Of course, many nonprofit organizations doesn’t have that big funds and many nonprofit organizations do fundraising activities and accept grants from biggers nonprofit organizations in order to raise money. I think, even small scale NPOs need fundraising software to manage their funds well and serve their purpose better.
