Do not be anxious

Keep Going (Source: Allposters.com)

I just wish to quote again Matthew 6:25-27, 34 that I have used in my previous blog entry, You Can’t Always Get What You Want, which says,

” Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value that they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life…? Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

Do you have those days when you feel as if some bad things were about to happen and you’re becoming so pessimistic, tension is starting to build up in your head, and anxiety is starting to sink in? That’s what I feel today. Yes, despite how I keep on repeating to myself that God will always be in control, sometimes I can’t help being anxious and worried.

What’s about being anxious? That’s when you start to worry about the future, about your kids, those unsettled obligations, and among other things that you think don’t just go according to your plans and wishes. As if everything just seems piling up. I started this blog with those verses from the Bible to remind me that there’s really nothing to be anxious about.

Writing this blog is like a therapy to me to pour out my sentiments. Like a diary, a journal, but this time I let the world to see what I was writing about and what I feel. My bestfriend Chix told me how brave I was writing about my grief and bout of depression following my mother’s death in another blog. Yes I know that, considering that talking about depression here in the Philippines is still taboo for many. Like the issue of divorce. Hypocritical.

Oops, before I go out of the topic, yes, maybe writing a blog of how you deal with your life is braveness, but it takes more guts and courage to face the challenges of life because you have to deal with them face to face. Now that I am 31, and a bit wiser (i hope), I have come to realize that life is all about choices and consequences. My former boss (of 9 years) told me life is all about choices, and there are no right or wrong decisions. She told me this when I resigned from work last year and I told her about my fear about my decision of becoming a fulltime mom. I told her that despite all the possible pitfalls, I know in my heart it is the right thing to do for my kids.

My decision is kind of poetic I know, but thinking about what she said, it’s true, we can’t really tell NOW whether a choice is right or wrong. If we knew from the very beginning that it is not the right one, would we still choose that path? Because it’s only after we have made the decision, and then we think the consequences or outcomes become good for us that we tell that we have decided correctly. Otherwise, we consider our decision to be wrong. But would it be really wrong just because the outcome was not good on us or different from what we have expected it to be? Can we really tell?

Although we may say that one wrong decision could get us nowhere, but such turn could also be an opportunity. It is all just a matter of perspective. Life could lead us to lots of crossroads, but the choice is ours. For me, I’d rather choose the latter and make life’s obstacles work for me. I’d rather go on with my life and triumph over all the trials, however hard can be, rather than just sulk and become a passive audience to my own life.

Just like what a quote says, failure is success turned inside out. Hence, we should not regret our “wrong” decisions because it just depends on how we treat those “failures” and make it work to our advantage to make it a “success”. It may be too hard to follow, but we should try not to be anxious when all things fail and everything else seems not going our way. Life is full of crosses and trials, but how we treat them all makes the difference. Because for sure, even if things resulted to what we didn’t expected them to be, each problem would always have a solution and everything would be all right.

How do i feel now? I feel relieved and anxieties are all gone. Sure, problems are not solved over night, but hey, that makes life more exciting, isn’t it? Problems are called challenges, for us to be challenged! To end this blog, here’s a poem from my little book, The Road of Life:

SIGNIFICANCE

There’s a sign, if I can see,
The Father made for only me,
That I might know the path ahead
And always safely, surely tread.

There is a mark along the way
To note the turns lest I should stray,
A sure and certain path for me
If I have only eyes to see.

O let me not in darkness grope
And plod along with merest hope,
But may I ever be aware
That for my life the plan is there,
That every forward step I take
And every upward thrust I make
Unfolds a bit the perfect chart
Whereby GOD guides my trembling heart.

O make me quiet, make me still
Until I sense Thy loving Will,
Then, when the sign is given me,
O give me, God, the eyes to see!
